Patient education is the procedure in which individuals within health occupations impart information to patients about their own health status and needs. The goal of patient education is to enable patients to improve their own health by changing their health-related behaviors. Education can be therapeutic or used for disease prevention. Patient education interventions are systematic and may require more than one intervention. Patient education methods should accommodate patients' needs, language, culture, and literacy.
