Patient Education & Health Literacy resources

What is Numeracy?

Numeracy (number, or mathematical literacy) is the ability to access, use, interpret, and communicate mathematical information and ideas, and to engage in and manage mathematical demands of a range of situations in adult life. This includes the ability to apply basic arithmetic skills to concepts of size, weight, dimension, costs, probability, risk,  making change, handling personal finances, following a recipe, and understanding a graph, to cite just a few examples.
