The APA Manual is a required text for all courses at CGI.  In September 2019, the APA announced that it was releasing the Seventh Edition of its style manual.

Spring 1 courses list the Seventh edition as a required text; however, it appears that Amazon and other retailers will not have widespread copies available until later in the spring.  Therefore, CGI will continue to refer to the standards of the APA Manual, Sixth edition, for the Spring 1 2020 term.  Students should prepare all formal academic writing using the standards of the Sixth edition.

During this time of transition, there are several resources that can be consulted regarding the Sixth Edition.

  • The APA will maintain a Sixth Edition archive until August 2020.  However, be aware that all of the APA's blog posts and publications, going forward, will refer to the standards of the Seventh Edition.
  • The Purdue OWL will be transitioning its resources slowly over the next months; however, it remains an excellent source of information on APA format.
  • The Excelsior OWL's APA resources remain in the Sixth Edition.
  • The CORE Library's Research Guides on APA format will be available through the end of the Summer term and will be archived in August 2020.  New resources will begin to emerge that reference the Seventh Edition over the upcoming terms.
